Smithtown Highway Department Maintenance Facility Modifications to Garage Floor and Roof Drainage

Project Details

Client: Town of Smithtown Engineering Department

Location: Smithtown, NY

Project Summary

Conducted design, permitting and construction monitoring services of a compliance project to modernize the floor drainage system of a busy fleet maintenance garage, providing pollution control measures in strict accordance with applicable Suffolk County Health Department Article 12 regulations.  As the repair facility is critical infrastructure for the Town’s emergency response crews, the project was designed to be executed within a tight time frame allowing for minimal service interruptions.  The construction was kept on track with precise coordination by LKMA’s project management and inspection team.  The photo (see slider right) depicts the limited space, numerous interior obstacles and utilities the design and construction took into account, successfully minimizing any disruption to the Town’s public works operations.

The project consisted of the demolition and reconstruction of the interior concrete floor, provision of an interior positive drainage system leading to a 2,000-gallon exterior underground storage tank (see slider right), installation of automated level sensors, tank leak detection systems and reconfiguration of an existing Veeder Root tank management system.  LKMA worked closely with vendors to ensure several unique needs of the Town could be met.  LKMA prepared permit plans, bid specifications, and construction drawings for all of the above-referenced improvements and provided construction administration, inspection and support services for the project.
